Marske United Football Club: Northern League Division 2 2010/2011 Season

Match Report:

Horden CW (Away) | Saturday 21st August 2010 3pm | Northern League Div 2 | Result 0 - 2 (Win) | Scorer: Brunskill (2)

Marske made only one change from the side that saw off Hebburn in midweek, John Seaton replacing Micky Dalton in the centre of midfield.

Horden included two former Marske United juniors in their starting line-up, Harry Taylor and Shane Erskine.

Marske had a great opportunity to take an early lead with just four minutes on the clock, when referee Richie Brine awarded a penalty.

Lewis Wood brought down a long ball forward with an excellent touch and got past his man in the box before being tripped.  Danny Brunskill stepped up to take the penalty but struck a weak shot that Grant Herbert pushed away for a corner.

Brunskill went close on 13 minutes when he hit a powerful shot on the turn that dipped just behind the crossbar with the keeper beaten.

Marske led after 34 minutes following a good run and cross on the left wing from John Seaton.  Lee Donachie did well to keep the move going before Brunskill robbed a defender on the edge of the box and hit a clinical low shot that found its way into the back of the net.

Two minutes later Marske put together their best move of the season so far with a quick break down the left involving Dale Mendum and Dom Gamble.  Gamble’s cross into the box was excellently won by Brunskill but his volley whizzed wide heading for the beach.

Half-time:  Horden CW 0v1 Marske United

On 66 minutes Brunskill held the ball up on the left and supplied Gamble to cross.  Lewis Wood attempted a spectacular volley at goal but couldn’t keep it down.

Rob Jones replaced Seaton and Mitchell Morris came on for Gamble, but Marske’s direct approach to the game was struggling as the front men were failing to make the ball stick.

Horden came close to grabbing an equaliser on 72 minutes when Anthony Hume hit a shot on the turn from the edge of the box.  Danny Dixon had to get across his goal line quickly to turn the ball wide for a corner.

Marske finished the game strongly.  A free kick into the area by Mendum on 79 minutes found Wood in acres of space, but rather than shoot, he played the ball back out wide.

A minute later Jones picked out Brunskill who showed a brilliant first touch to allow him space to pick a shot that he drove low past Herbert to double the advantage.

Straight from the restart it was almost 3-0 as Mendum struck a looping shot from the edge of the box that Herbert had to tip over the bar.

And on 83 minutes Mendum was again denied by Herbert who was quick off his line to thwart the midfielder who found himself in a one-on-one situation after being played in by Morris.

Full-time:  Horden CW 0v2 Marske United

A well taken brace from Brunskill proved more than enough to separate Marske from a poor Horden side lacking in experience.
