West
Auckland (Home): FA Vase 2nd
Qualifying Round:
Saturday 24th Sept 2011
Result:
Marske United 2 West
Auckland 6 Scorers:
Bradley, Ormerod
Marske United
welcomed two-time World Cup
winners West Auckland Town for
the start of their FA Vase
campaign, and Paul Burton named
an unchanged outfield from the
midweek draw against Bedlington
Terriers. Between the sticks,
Jonathan Collinson was drafted
in as emergency cover for
Jonathan McDonald who has left
to join Pickering Town.
The visitors
led after on eight minutes when
Andy Raw’s throw-in down the
line was headed back forwards by
Stuart Banks to Danny Hindmarsh
on the corner of the penalty
area. He turned his marker and
delivered a cross that was
nodded in on the edge of the six
yard box by a totally unmarked
Matty Moffatt.
Just 25
seconds later, straight from
kick-off, Alex Francis
drove forward to the corner of
the box and drove a low shot
past Collinson that crept just
inside the far post.
Having
conceded twice in quick
succession, a cricket score
looked to be on the cards for
Marske, but to their credit they
worked their way back into the
game and went close when Danny
Brunskill headed straight at
Mark Bell.
But Marske
were their own worse enemies and
went close to conceding a third
in calamitous circumstances. A
throw on the left just inside
the opposition half quickly
resulted in panic at the back as
Collinson’s attempted clearance
was charged down by Moffatt,
allowing Hindmarsh a free shot
on goal that curled just wide.
United pulled
a goal back on 22 minutes when
Steve Cochrane managed to beat
the offside trap and fire a low
effort across Bell. His shot
was parried but Derek Bradley
was on hand to scoop up the
rebound and couldn’t miss from
six yards out.
The home side
were dealt a blow on 25 minutes
when Andy Raw limped off to be
replaced by Lee Donachie, and
shortly afterwards Mark Taylor
also left the field to be
replaced by Adam Gell.
Nevertheless,
they enjoyed a decent spell of
pressure, but rarely failed to
trouble the visiting keeper.
Right on the
stroke of half-time Marske
almost drew level after Chris
McGill won a free kick wide on
the right. Brunskill caught
Bell off guard by choosing to
shoot, but his effort rattled
the crossbar and Anthony Roberts
was unable to direct the rebound
on target.
Half-time: Marske United 1 v 2
West Auckland
Marske’s
bright end to the first half was
quickly forgotten as West
Auckland scored a third goal
just four minutes after the
interval. A high ball forward
into the Marske penalty area was
controlled well by Moffatt who
laid the ball back to
Nathan Wilson near
the penalty spot to slot past
Collinson.
Three minutes
later Francis got to the byline
and centred towardsWilson
who couldn’t believe his luck to
find himself in acres of space
to add a fourth goal.
On 63 minutesWilson
sauntered through to add a fifth
goal for the visitors and
complete his hat trick, but
Marske managed to pull a second
goal back nine minutes later.
After Bradley’s free kick came
to nothing, Dom Gamble’s long
throw-in was flicked on by
Brunskill towards the far post
where it was met by Anthony
Ormerod who volleyed home
from close range.
West
completed the rout on 83
minutes, scoring from a Marske
corner kick. Martin Young
hooked a long clearance down
field for Moffatt to run
onto. Collinson held him up
briefly on the edge of the box,
but having got round him the
striker curled a shot into the
far corner, despite Gamble’s
best efforts to keep it out.
Full-time: Marske United 2 v 6

conceded six goals at home since

6-0 at Tow Law.
