MATCH REPORT: Crook Town (Away): NL Div 2, 12th December 2009.

F/T : Draw 0 - 4 Scorers: - Brunskill (2), Bradley, Seaton

We made two changes from the team that saw off Gillford Park in midweek, Rob Jones returned to replace the injured Benn Thompson, and Richie Ward took Anthony Roberts’ spot in defence.

Following the resignation of their manager a week earlier and the departure of six first team players, Crook managed to scrape a side together and included several debutants.

We took to the pudding of a Millfield pitch and had all the opening possession but managed to do little with it.

Crook came close with their first venture into our half on eight minutes.  Failure to deal with a ball into the box allowed Paul Bailes to shoot low at Brendan Ledgeway.  His blocked shot fell to Gavin Barton, whom Stuart Jackson had to tackle, and after a scramble the linesman raised his flag for an offside.

Our first chance of the game came after 14 minutes as Daryll Hall sliced a clearance behind him for Rob Jones to run onto.  He hit a decent shot across Paul Gibson, but the keeper managed to get a hand to it to concede a corner.

Dom Gamble’s corner fell to Richie Ward at the back post, but the defender couldn’t help it on target.

Derek Bradley created himself a good chance on 21 minutes after playing a neat 1-2 with Jones at the edge of the box, but couldn’t steer his curling shot on target.

We came closest to opening the scoring during the first half after 35 minutes when Bradley’s looping cross had to be tipped over the bar by Gibson.

We forced four successive corners but failed to threaten from them.

Half-time:  Crook Town 0 v 0 Marske United

Craig Skelton replaced Owen Dixon at the break, and had a goal ruled out for offside within the first minute of the restart.

Crook nearly caught us cold from a corner on 48 minutes as Barton glanced a header just wide.

We took the lead after 53 minutes when Gamble got forward and played a teasing low ball across the six yard box that Danny Brunskill got on the end of to score with an easy finish.

Brunskill came close to a second three minutes later as he was picked out on the edge of the box by Skelton.  Gibson was at full stretch to tip his effort around the post for a corner.

A good build up on 58 minutes resulted in a rare Josh Myers shot that deflected off John Jury before being turned round the post by Gibson.

We were much more into our stride since the introduction of Skelton who and on the hour mark he held up Brunskill’s through ball before cleverly finding Gamble on the left wing.  Gamble drove into the box and blasted a low shot across goal that Bradley turned over the line from close range.

John Seaton came on for Josh Myers and made an immediate impact.  After starting a move forward, he got onto the end of a Gamble cross but volleyed just wide.

Brunskill and Ward both had chances to increase our lead as Gamble and Seaton were causing the home defence all sorts of problems.

And the two of them combined to score our third goal on 70 minutes.  Skelton held the ball up on the left before playing in the overlapping Gamble whose low drive into the box was struck home by Seaton to grab his first ever goal for the club.

Jackson headed a corner towards Brunskill on 75 minutes whose sliced volley was cleared off the line by Graham McTaggart, before we rounded things off with ten minutes left.

We broke from our own box with Skelton and Brunskill combining, the latter cleverly controlling Skelton’s cross and cutting inside his marker before coolly slotting the ball into the back of the net.

Full-time:  Crook Town 0 v 4 Marske United

Whatever Burto said at the interval seemed to work as we came out in the second half with all guns blazing. With Crook visibly tiring and Dom Gamble in unstoppable form on the left we soon got into scoring mode and took our tally to 21 goals in the last five games as well as keeping another clean sheet.

Teams:

Crook Town:  Gibson, McTaggart, Brown, Hall, Jury (Robinson), Best, Towes, Taylor, Barton, Bailes, Peachey.

Marske United:  Ledgeway, A.Raw, Gamble, Swalwell (Helm), Ward, Jackson, Dixon (Skelton), Myers (Seaton), Brunskill, Jones, Bradley.

Not Used: Taylor, Roberts.
