EMMERDALE GAME:
WILLIE MADDREN TROPHY 2009
Marske United 7
Bernie Slaven Middlesbrough XI 2
Sunday 26th
July 2009
Willie Maddren
Memorial Trophy
Following
Emmerdale’s late cancellation, Paul Burton was
given less than two hours to try and assemble a
team to take part in this years Willie Maddren
Trophy competition.
Whilst Brendan
Ledgeway travelled up from
York, Mark Riley started
off in goal and kept a clean sheet, easily
holding on to Boro’s only early shot from Neil
Maddison.
Ledge replaced Rilo,
and at the other end Carl Chillingsworth went
close before Craig Skelton gave us the lead
after Dasser had initially made a fine save from
Chilli.
Middlesbrough
got back into it midway through the
half when
they netted from close range, as Maddison and
Craig Hignett were trying to up the tempo.
Boro led 2-1
courtesy of a good Christian Kamara effort, but
a fine strike on the half volley from
Chillingsworth levelled the scores shortly
before half-time.
After an even first
period, Marske took control in the second half,
quickly going 4-2 up with two more goals from
Chillingsworth.
Dom Gamble then
broke through and drove a low shot under the
Boro keeper, before Chilli took his personal
tally to four.
Boro searched for a
consolation, but Ledgeway saved well from Kamara
and Bernie Slaven, before young Jordan Keegan
rounded things off with a fine solo goal.
