MATCH REPORT:
Hebburn (Away): NL Div 2, 21st November
2009.
F/T : Won 0 - 4
Scorers: Bradley, Thompson (2), Jones
Following defeat
against Guisborough, we reverted to a 4-4-2
formation with Owen Dixon and Derek Bradley
returning to the midfield and Benn Thompson
partnering Rob Jones up front. Richie Ward
replaced the injured Mark Taylor in the centre
of defence.
As usual, the
Hebburn Town pitch was in very good condition,
and the hosts almost caught us out with just
three minutes on the clock. A lapse in
concentration from Thompson saw him play the
ball back to Josh Myers who was caught under
pressure and Michael Armstrong capitalised but
Stuart Jackson made a good recovering tackle.
A high ball forward
on seven minutes was headed into the pace of
Thompson by Jones, and Kyle Pendergood slid in
to concede either a corner or a penalty. The
referee gave neither.
We led after 10
minutes following a good spell of pressure. Dom
Gamble’s corner was flicked on by Ward to Derek
Bradley who controlled it well before lashing a
half volley into the back of the net from 10
yards out.
Spurred on by an
early goal, Marske went in search of a second
and nearly doubled the lead three minutes
later. Gamble did well on the left and crossed
to Thompson whose looping header was tipped over
the bar by Kevin Duncan.
A good passing move
after 18 minutes found Bradley in space just
outside the box but his shot towards goal was
deflected behind for a corner.
Hebburn failed to
get the flag kick clear and Dixon’s eventual
cross was headed goal bound by Ward but was
blocked on the line by the offside Jones.
A rare shot from
Hebburn by Willie Crew on 26 minutes was
comfortably saved by Brendan Ledgeway following
failure to get the ball clear.
Jackson found the
back of the net with a header from Andy
Swalwell’s free kick on 29 minutes but had it
chalked off for a foul on Nicky Pain.
Crew set up Keith
Oliver for a shot on the half hour mark
following a decent build up, but Ledgeway was
equal to it.
Jones made up
ground down the right on 33 minutes and passed
to Dixon who beat the left full back and
delivered a wicked cross towards the far post.
The one person you wanted to meet it duly
obliged, and Thompson headed powerfully into the
net from close range to double our advantage.
It was like pinball
in the Hebburn goalmouth on 35 minutes following
Wards free kick into the box after a rash tackle
on Dixon. Thompson went close and after Bradley
picked up the bits, his cross back in bounced
around before eventually being booted clear.
Ledgeway didn’t
look too confident dealing with Marc
Brocklehurst’s swirling high ball towards goal,
and flapped it off the line, and had to save
Crew’s follow-up well.
In the final minute
of the half, Swalwell sent Dixon through on goal
but Duncan did well to get a hand to his
attempted lob.
Half-time:
Hebburn Town 0v2 Marske United
We had plenty of
possession after the restart but didn’t create
anything with it until the 63rd
minute. If we weren’t playing the high ball
forward, we were trying to make the killer pass.
In the end it was a
simple move that created our third goal. The
ball was played low along the ground to Jones
who cut in past Karl McMann and rolled the ball
across for Thompson to finish from just inside
the box.
Two minutes later
the ball came out to Gamble who struck a wicked
drive destined for the top corner that Duncan
got a hand to, to force over.
From the resulting
corner the ball fell to Swalwell who hit a
similar shot towards goal that Duncan again
saved well.
Jones got himself
into a good position on 70 minutes, but after
ten step-over’s he failed to do anything with it
despite us having plenty of bodies forward.
In a rare Hebburn
attack after 73 minutes, Brocklehurst went close
with a shot out of nothing that crept narrowly
wide of the far post.
It was 4-0 on 77
minutes following a brilliant defence splitting
pass from Bradley to Thompson. Benn had the
chance to complete his hat trick but unselfishly
squared to Jones who easily finished from six
yards.
Two minutes later
it was Taxi for Swalwell as a good move started
by Bradley on the left ended with Swalwell in
clear view of the goal, but he sliced the ball
wide from 12 yards out.
John Seaton came on
to make his debut when he replaced Dixon on 81
minutes, and we dillied and dallied for the next
ten minutes.

Gamble got in to a
good position to score on 89 minutes but drove
his shot across the face of goal, then a minute
later Thompson struck a shot at goal from an
acute angle, but Duncan got his hands to it.
It should have been
5-0 in stoppage time as Bradley got forward into
the box. Seaton was in acres of space on the
penalty spot but Bradley tried to score himself
and under pressure from McMann, shot wide.
Full-time:
Hebburn Town 0v4 Marske United
Following defeat on
Wednesday we looked a much better side playing
in a 4-4-2 formation and the margin of victory
could have been by a lot more as we move up to
second in the table.
