MATCH REPORT:
Sunderland RCA (Home): NL Div 2, 3rd March 2010.
F/T : Draw 0 - 0
Scorers: -
With several players
missing, Burto brought Micky Waller, Owen Dixon
and Tommy Raw back into the side, whilst the
visitors were at full strength.
The game started at
a quick tempo but neither keeper was tested
early on as both teams tried to attack.
Benn Thompson
thought he had opened the scoring after 15
minutes when he powered home a header from Dom
Gamble’s corner, bur the referee had blown for a
foul just as he was heading in.
Ryhope’s first
chance came on 19 minutes following a quick
break down the centre of the pitch. Former
Crook Town striker Darren Kokes hit a low shot
from just outside the box that Brendan Ledgeway
got down well for to save.
The division’s
leading scorer Mark Davison blazed a shot
narrowly over the bar with 28 minutes gone
before there was some controversy at the other
end two minutes later.
Rob Jones played in
Tommy Raw on the edge of the area but he was
brought down by Daryll Hall just as he was about
to shoot. The referee deemed it to be a
fantastic last ditch tackle.
We moved the ball
forward quickly from our own box on 32 as Raw,
Bradley, Jones and Thompson all combined to set
up Owen Dixon who turned inside his marker
before forcing a good save out of Jon Minniss
who tipped the ball around the post.
RCA broke away
quickly on 35 minutes as Ash Davis made the most
of the space on the left flank, but after
getting past Waller, couldn’t find a finish.
Ryhope created
another good chance on 40 minutes as Kokes
latched on to a long diagonal ball and centred
to Davis who slipped as he hit a vicious shot
narrowly wide.
Marske finished the
half on top but couldn’t produce a final ball as
Bradley and Dixon both worked their way into
good positions but failed with their crosses.
Half-time:
Marske United 0 v 0 Sunderland Ryhope
Marske made a good
start to the second half. Steve Jones made a
good saving tackle on Rob Jones early on as the
forward was shaping up to shoot inside the box.
Ledgeway then
punched away a free kick from Davison, and
Waller had a good low cross into the box well
claimed by Minniss.
There were several
quick fire yellow cards produced midway through
the half as Ryhope were beginning to struggle
with the pace of the Marske front line.
Having soaked up a
brief spell of Sunderland Ryhope pressure, Tommy
Raw came close at the other end with the best
chance of the half on 80 minutes.
Thompson did well to
keep the move going before Bradley’s cross was
headed towards goal by Raw from six yards out.
The ball almost looped over Minniss but the
keeper just managed to catch it in front of the
goal line.
RCA applied some
late pressure in the final minutes as both
Anthony Roberts and Jones limped off injured,
but we held on well to gain a point.
Full-time:
Marske United 0 v 0 Sunderland Ryhope
In a terrific
end-to-end encounter which first swung in favour
of the Marske before RCA finished the stronger
as the game progressed. The only disappointment
for the fans was the fact that it ended
goalless.
