Chairman's Weekly Review: 19th
February 2012
Seniors
Yesterday we played host to
Norton and Stockton Ancients at
the G.E.R stadium.
Unfortunately controversy
spoiled what could have been an
evenly matched derby game
against two teams that are mid
table and playing for bragging
rights on Teesside.
Benn Thompson's straight red
card definitely changed the game
on what should have been a
talking too for both players in
my opinion. As the referee saw
it as violent conduct he
produced a straight red!
Down to ten men and Graham the
keeper had to be on form again
to deny Norton with a couple of
shots on goal, a second half
penalty decision was well taken
by Norton and gave the visitors
the lead, one-nil.
Again I thought the rule is
"hand to ball"; a very debatable
decision but one that the young
referee was happy to give.
With the crowd understandably
not happy and on the referees
case it then changed to be a
mockery of the modern game with
Burto sent off for what I'm told
was his "abusive manner", and
throw ins given the opposite way
for not throwing it from the
right position. And so it
continued.
A mistake from our keeper with a
low kick out allowed Norton to
score a second and that's how a
very debatable afternoon at the
G.E.R stadium ended.
This type on inconsistency is
what frustrates players,
managers and supporters alike,
it is quiet understandable when
you have been at work all week,
trained hard for these games or
having to pay to watch them.
As a club we will be appealing
against the decisions and will
be required to attend a hearing
so with a bit of luck more
answers may become more clear by
then.
I know that without officials
there is no game, thankfully we
don't have too many days like
yesterday, but they do get paid
for doing a job and should be
held accountable at this level,
after all its not just a kick
about in the park and could
determine promotion or
relegation positions.
On a positive note match sponsor
P.R.A Business Solutions, Steve
Jones and Paul Mines, gave Man
of the match to Adam Gell. Many
thanks Steve and Paul and well
done Adam.
Finally well done to Norton and
Stockton Ancients on their win
and good luck for the rest of
the season, lets hope we meet up
again in the first division next
season.
Next match is at home Tuesday
night 21st February 2012 with a
7.30pm kick off against another
one of the promotion contenders
Sunderland RCA.
Saturday 25th February we are
away at Newton Aycliffe with a 3
o'clock kick off.

better of us and our game away

postponed due to a frozen pitch.

No game.
Under 12's
Quarter finals of the North
Riding Cup.
I promised a thriller and all
credit to our under 12's team
who despite going behind in the
game went on to win five-two.
Opponents Redcar Athletic play
in the first division and are no
push over so all credit to Neil,
the assistant coaches and of
course the lads themselves for a
fantastic result not only for
the team but the club as well.
We look forward to the draw for
the semi-final and lets hope you
get a home tie. Watch this
space.
Once again very well done and
many thanks for those who turned
out to support them, I know Neil
and the lads do appreciate it.

Only match to report on is
Dunston on Tuesday night as all
Saturday Northern League matches
were called off due to the snow.
In all fairness to Dunston they
deserved their five-one victory
and you can see why they are
still in the FA Vase as well as
pushing at the top of the table.
Quick wingers and deadly
strikers punished us but they
have to be one of the best teams
I've watched this year. Marske
didn't really trouble Dunston
until in the second half when we
played much better but couldn't
break through the Dunston
defence.
Congratulation's to Danny

Chairman's Weekly Review: 29th
January 2012
Seniors
Last Saturday the seniors were
away to high flying Spennymoor.
Moors have high expectations for
the season as documented in
their match day programme;
* To win the league for the
3rd year in succession
* To win domestic silverware
* To have a good run in the
FA Cup
* To have a good run in the
FA Vase - to reach the
quarter final or better.
The programme editor wrote, I
quote, "Marske have surprised
many teams this season by
punching their weight with the
big boys and in my opinion it's
no more than they deserve"
This then made our disappointing
start to the game harder to
accept as on five minutes we
failed to react on a corner kick
than on ten minutes a moment of
madness and we conceded a
penalty.
Two-nil and a mountain to climb
now!
You do have to give these top
teams respect but I feel we gave
them too much and sat off them
for long periods of the first
half.
McGill looked through on goal
only to be hacked down which saw
him go off with a serious ankle
injury I think, only for the
referee not to even speak to the
player who committed the foul.
Big club syndrome comes to mind.
Second half was a different
story and it looked as if we had
nothing to lose and pushed
forward.
This itself created some great
chances for Marske and we were
unlucky not to score a
consolation goal but must admit
"Lips" the Marske keeper had his
work cut out as well and did
well to keep the score at
two-nil.
All in all as long as we learn
from Saturday, as Dunston on
Tuesday night will be another
tough test and we must start
from the off.
I have 100% faith in this team
pulling off a result but do fear
for injury problems within the
squad but again we will see
Tuesday who is fit and
available.
Bring on Tuesday.
Under 18's
Under 18's played host to
Darlington at the G.E.R stadium
and pulled off a comfortable
three-nil win.
Well done lads.
Under 12's
Under 12's played host to Newton
Aycliffe at the G.E.R stadium
and again came out four-one
winners.
Special mention to Callum for
getting a hat-trick and well
done to the whole team as I'm
told we played some great
passing football, the way
football should be played in my
opinion.
Well done lads.

You never know what to expect at
Jarrow Roofing as although they
are in the bottom three of the
league they have had some funny
results.
With a strong wind blowing the
playing conditions weren't
perfect but all credit to the
lads for being patient and in
the end coming out comfortable
three-nil winners.
Burto made a couple of changes
to the starting eleven of late
with players back from injury
and wanting to mix things up a
little. With a strong squad it's
always going to be difficult to
pick the team when everybody is
back fit but it's a problem that
Burto has thankfully and not
myself, and this paid off on
Saturday.
The team have really taken on
training sessions and I know
Burto and Cappy are really
pleased with the effort and
determination given.
This in turn is showing on the
pitch as at the start of the
season we got beat in the last
fifteen minutes of games which
sometimes was down to fitness
levels, so keep it up and well
done.
It's all about looking upwards
now in the league as another
three points and we hit the
magic forty points which I'm
sure will ensure First Division
football next year.
With a few tough games coming up
your support is needed more than
ever and who knows where we will
finish. Burto finished twelfth
when he took Northallerton into
the First Division so I know
where he'll have his sights set
on.
All in all keep up the good work
as it's a pleasure to watch.
On a final note with reference
to Jarrow Roofing it does show
the importance of volunteers as
the barmaid was also the gate
lady and half time refreshment
personnel. How on earth she
manages I don't know, but well
done and many thanks.
Marske United are always looking
for more volunteers so if you
feel you can give a little spare
time, whether it be match days
or week days please make it
known to myself or any member of
the committee.
In a bid to move the club
forward in every direction we do
need your help.

Apologies for no weekly report
last week, problems with my
internet was the problem and
very frustrating with a busy
week ahead.
Last week we played host to
Middlesbrough reserves in the
North Riding Senior Cup and
attracted a good crowd of 420.
Unfortunately Marske were well
beaten by a very fit and
talented Middlesbrough side.
Half time saw us go in nil-nil
but we couldn't absorb the
pressure in the second half and
Middlesborough progressed into
the next round.
Really pleasing to see Tony
Mowbray and coaching staff at
the G.E.R Stadium and also Colin
our Kit Manager being able to
pull Tony to one side and give a
bit of advice of his own for the
rest of the season.
We wish them all the best in the
competition and League alike.
The weather got the best of us
this weekend with our game
called off due to a frozen
pitch.
Under 18's
Last week the Under 18's were
well beaten by a tough
Grangetown team eight-two.
Two Marske players sustained
injuries which seemed to change
the game. We wish them a speedy
recovery.
No game this week.
Under 12's
Last week no luck for our Under
12's either so not a good week
for any of our teams.
Beaten four-one but a good
performance by the team who
battled throughout.
No game this week due to Frozen
pitch.

Unfortunately Bill Maguire, one
of our long standing supporters
passed away last Tuesday.
Bill was one of our first ever
season ticket holders and a true
supporter of the club. Our
thoughts and condolences go out
to the Maguire family and
friends.
Funeral is this Thursday 10.15am
at St Mark's Church, Marske. RIP
Bill.

This Saturday from 9.30am in The
Marske Leisure Centre Marske
United are holding a coffee
morning.
Your support is needed, we
require cakes and tombola
prizes, help on the morning is
always required but most of all
show your face and have a cuppa'
and a cake while raising funds
for Marske United Football Club.
Please contact Janet if your are
able to help and bring cakes and
prizes on the morning for 9.30am

Chairman's Weekly Review:
2nd January 2012
Seniors
Happy New Year to you all and
it's probably a good time to
reflect on what the club and
team have achieved in 2011.
Getting promoted into the First
Division has to be my high
point, low point getting beat by
our neighbours Guisborough Town
in the NRSC.
Preseason - having the
floodlights sorted ensured our
status in the league. Our
biggest plus has to be retaining
Burto and his assistants as the
management team, as well as most
of the team and committee for
without them we would not have a
club.
Retaining a lot of our loyal
sponsors and supporters, as well
as bringing in new ones with
Jarvis Joinery taking the main
shirt sponsorship was a big
positive.
Starting the season slowly was
frustrating, watching Burto and
the team turn the season around
is pure brilliance.
Cappy getting a new watch! than
the team going on an eight game
unbeaten run, what is even
better than that is over the
last seventeen games
Marske have only been beaten
three times. Some doing in the
first division I'm sure you'll
agree.
Plenty to think about and also a
reminder that the season is over
42 games and you have to take
the lows as well as the highs
along the way.
Back to the football and see
what 2012 brings for the club.
Monday 02nd January saw us play
host to Tow Law AFC who we have
beaten twice already this season
in the league and cup. Although
second bottom in the league
table at present this Tow Law
team play decent football and
will definitely take points off
teams.
Not a classic game by any means
but it's the three points we
wanted and got. Job done in my
eyes.
After speaking to some of our
players these eleven o'clock
kick off's don't suit them.
Whether it takes them all
morning to wake up or as Danny
Brunskill had, coming straight
off a twelve hour night shift
from work to play. Regardless,
well done to the players in
difficult conditions.
First half Tow Law started the
better but as the half
progressed we started to get
into the game and eventually
McGill put Marske one nil up
from a Charlton corner.
Tow Law had their chances but
hitting the bar and Willey in
goal on form again for Marske
kept the half time score
one-nil.
Second half was much the same
only for the referee to give
some strange decisions which
started to frustrate the players
and crowd alike.
Marske's second goal came when
the Tow Law keeper didn't clear
the ball quick enough with an on
form Tommy Marron charging down
which paid off for him to score
a well taken chip on the keeper.
Tow Law came back at the end to
score from a corner and a
scramble in the Marske box which
we failed to clear.
Full time Two-one and just the
start to the new year we wished
for.
BEDE financial services kindly
sponsored this match and picked
Adam Gell as their man of the
match. Well done Adam and many
thanks John and Tony

The 20-year-old midfielder was

are extremely supportive to

appreciated by the club.

own Ardan Lettings are keen

great they support the club when

In return for this generosity
can I ask supporters and team

Chairman's Weekly Review: 26th
December 2011
Seniors
With the festivities over and
glad to see the back of the
turkey it was time for the much
awaited derby game against our
rivals Guisborough Town FC.
The temperature was mild for the
time of year but you can't have
everything and once again a
strong wind put the dampeners on
the game.
On arriving at King George V
ground, home of Guisborough Town
FC we were greeted by an ex
Marske player Aussie Johnson who
was clearly up for this local
derby and a bit of banter on the
way.
Burto started with the same team
that has gone unbeaten now for 6
games and the first half saw
Marske have the best chances.
Got to admit a supporter came
past and mentioned Guisborough
were all over us? It just shows
that even though we are all
watching the same game, when it
comes to opinions we are all so
different.
Half time nil-nil.
With missed chances you always
fear the worse and how true this
was second half. Decka just shot
wide when one on one with the
goal keeper only for
Guisborough's Captain and the
sponsor's MOM Austin Johnson be
quickest to react in the Marske
box at the other end and score
the opener.
For a spell it looked all one
way with Guisborough clearly up
for more goals but if ever a
substitution worked it was when
Burto changed Brunskill,
Charlton and Decka for Jones,
McGill and Ormerod. With some
great passing football it was
fitting that McGill squared the
ball for Jones to put in the
back of the net.
Chances came at both ends only
for Marske to end the stronger
trying to snatch the three
points.
Full time one-one and a fair
result on the day.
MOM for Marske was given to Mark
Taylor who didn't put a foot
wrong. Well done Mark.
Final note on the game is I'd
like to thank Guisborough's
committee for their hospitality,
not a turkey sandwich in sight
thank heavens, with a decent
crowd all in all made for an
enjoyable day. Many thanks.

Tow Law are no mugs and even

when we played them earlier in
the season.
Did you know Tow Law have never
been relegated from Division One
since joining the Division?
Come New Year they have always
managed to turn their season
around.
Still think there's half a dozen
teams could get caught in a
relegation battle at the bottom
of the table so we need to make
sure there is no complacency
when playing these teams below
us.
Seven games unbeaten now so keep
it up fella's and don't forget
your watch Cappy!

Chairman's Weekly Review: 18th
December 2011
Seniors
Tuesday 13th December we
welcomed Whitley Bay FC to the
G.E.R stadium for a hastily
rearranged midweek fixture by
the league.
In less than perfect conditions,
blowing a gale the game went
ahead. With chances few and far
between it was a solid
performance by the team to earn
another valuable point and keep
us joint top on points in the
form table and only confined to
second place due to goal
difference. Excellent stuff.
Final score nil-nil.
Sponsor Mark Smith from NE
Bearings and Transmissions
picked Tommy Marron his MOM.
Well done Tommy and many thanks
Mark for your continued support.
Absolutely gutted when on
Saturday morning I took the
phone call from the Dunston
Chairman to say the local
referee had called our game off
due to half the pitch still
frozen over.
This should of been a cracker
with both teams playing well and
an estimated seventy to eighty
supporters making the trip up
the A1 and happy to fight with
the Metro centre traffic in
order to show their support for
Burto and the team.
Another away trip is going to be
organised so watch this space.
If anyone has got any
preferences to which club/ground
they would like to visit than
please get in touch, we value
your views.
I can confirm that all home
matches at present have been
sponsored.
Again it's brilliant that
sponsor's and supporters have
come forward and we can't thank
you enough.
Under 18's
The under 18's welcomed Bedale
to the G.E.R stadium in a game
that was hit and miss with the
frost. Thankfully the game went
ahead and the team fought out a
one-one draw. Well done lads.
Under 12's
As the under 12's play on Sunday
mornings kick off was to early
to beat the frost and the game
had to be called off.
Next away match is against our
local rivals Guisborough Town FC
Our next match is away at the
King George V ground home of
Guisborough Town Football Club.
Monday 26th December "Boxing
Day" with an Eleven o'clock
kick off.
There's no bigger game for
supporters than this one with
local bragging rights at stake.
Being a Guisborough lad myself I
am pleased that the club seem to
be overcoming its financial
difficulties but there's no
sitting on the fence, come
Monday and there's only one team
for me.
The Mighty Marske United.
Last time we met was in the
North Riding Senior Cup final
where neither team really turned
up that day but Guisborough did
enough to win and lift the Cup.
The cup apparently is locked up
at present but it wouldn't
surprise me to see it on Boxing
day, and why not.
With our game called off on
Saturday I decided to go and
watch Guisborough against
Ashington yesterday. As usual
Johnson in midfield was a
handful and Roberts on the wing
for Guisborough threatened when
ever he got the ball. A couple
to watch on Boxing day I reckon.
Another twist to the tale as
they say is after listening to
rumours around the ground I can
confirm Guisborough have put
seven days notice into ourselves
to speak to Rob Jones.
Since Rob got his injury he has
been committed to the bench due
to Benn Thompson and Danny
Brunskill playing out their
skins. No player wants to sit on
the bench as they just want to
play, which is a great attitude
to have, I personally do hope
Rob sticks it out with us and
takes his chance when it comes
along.
With a North Riding Senior Cup
match coming up against the
mighty Boro and more midweek
matches guaranteed to come thick
and fast we do need a solid
squad. We have a brilliant squad
at present and the team sprit
has never been better so it
would be good to stick together
and see what this current team
can achieve this year. We will
wait and see.
Guisborough have two stands at
the King George V ground. Show
your support on Boxing Day, put
on your yellow and blue and turn
up in force.
Fill the stand, get out your
flags and sing your hearts out
for the team.
Help make it a day to remember
for all concerned, players and
supporters alike and hopefully
come away with another valuable
three points to keep our
unbeaten run going.
C'mon you Seasiders, Sea Sea
Seasiders.

After the game Marske Sports
Club have organised a karaoke
night for supporters and team
alike to attend.
Starts from five o'clock and our
Christmas draw with the £200
cash first prize will be drawn
on the night. Even better reason
to attend.

Chairman's Weekly Review: 11th
December 2011
Seniors
Happy day's and what a result
this is against a Newcastle
Benfield team that's made it to
the last thirty-two in the FA
Vase.
Needless to say the Benfield dug
out aren't a happy bunch but
after hearing comments at half
time as they left the pitch they
deserved all they got.
Before I go onto the game a
quick mention about the degree
of foul and abusive language
coming from the Benfield dug out
was no less than disgraceful. I
went and had a word with the
linesman to ask to calm them
down as we have women and
children in the crowd only to be
told it's part of the modern
game!
Mike Amos the league Chairman
will be hearing from me as he
has different views and this
season we have either been
victimised or just unlucky for
much less. As a club we will not
tolerate this type of behaviour
as we intend having a push to
get more family's to the games.
Watch this space!
I do wish Newcastle Benfield the
best of luck in their FA Vase
run and for the rest of the
season.
Onto the match and forget about
luck that some people mentioned
after the game.
Two-one the final result and
Marske totally deserved it. Yes
second half we had to dig in,
but in the first half so did
Benfield as I still believe we
should of had our penalty shout,
to go in at half time three-nil
up it would of been game over.
That's football I'm afraid.
Two-nil it was.
Brunskill and Taylor heading our
two goals in makes a refreshing
change, last week Danny out
paced a defender and now heads
in a goal, can't wait to see
what he's got in store for
Tuesday night. Well done Danny.
Taylor was awarded sponsor's MOM
by CPM Racing "scottish Jimmy
and Richard Lee" with a close
second for Graeme Willey who in
the second half made some
tremendous saves. Well done Mark
and thank you Jimmy and Richard.
It is extremely hard these days
to pick the MOM as every player
is giving their all and all
deserve a mention. I would like
to mention a couple who have
come on leaps and bounds for me,
Anthony Roberts, Lee Carling and
Adam Gell, all have found their
feet and have been close
contenders over the past couple
of weeks.
Final result two-one.
Another three points takes our
tally up to twenty-nine and
twelfth in the league table.
Still second in the form table
so lets keep it up.
Last week I promised some upsets
and that's the first, who knows
where we'll be come Christmas.
Under 18's
The under 18's travelled to
Acklam but after a hard fought
game conceded two late goals and
the score line ended three-one
Acklam.
Under 12's
I would like to start by
thanking the under 12's for
having their Christmas party at
the club on Saturday night. The
biggest quiz I've ever entered
saw us come a close last.
Apparently Janet is a Strictly
dancing person and not an X
factor one so think that's where
we lost our points. Regardless a
good night was had by all.
Onto Sunday and an early start
saw the under 12's get a coach
at 9am to head towards
Scarborough, Filey to be exact,
in the North Riding Cup.
Scarborough Athletic their
opponents who before today have
also had some high scoring wins.
Nursing a sore head I decided
this one was for me so picked up
the kit manager and headed over
in the car.
The pitch couldn't have been
more open with a bitter cold
wind blowing, even though the
mothers may not have been too
happy with Colin constantly
telling them he had his heated
seat on in the car this didn't
deter our under 12's. After
going down one-nil in the first
half they battled on and got a
much deserved equaliser.
One-one the final score and onto
penalties it went.
A brilliant team effort saw our
under 12's into the next round
of the North Riding Cup. Well
done lads.
My final note is that the way
our under 12 kids, parents and
coach's conduct themselves is a
credit to themselves and the
club, I cannot praise you enough
and you have done Marske United
Football Club proud. Well done.
Next match at the G.E.R stadium.
This Tuesday we welcome Whitley
Bay to the G.E.R stadium which
is going to be another tough
game.
Our next away trip.
Saturday 17th December we make
the trip to Dunston UTS.
Dunston are flying high at
present sitting fifth in the
league and forth in the form
table. Be the twelfth man and
help cheer the team on.
As a club we are offering
supporters Free coach travel to
this match, on paper this should
be a cracking game so be sure
not to miss it. Due to expected
Christmas traffic the coach will
leave the G.E.R stadium at 12
noon.
Dig out your flags, save your
voices, pack your dinner and
turn up to show your support for
Burto and the team.
Limited seats available "NONE" so
be sure to book your seats with
Janet or myself early to avoid
disappointment.

that any supporter wishing to go

Janet's list please get in touch

will endeavour to arrange
additional transport.

Four goals and another three
points, second in the form table
and creeping up the league
table, its a great time to be a
Marske supporter.
Plenty to talk about with Karl Charlton in the leagues top twelve
hot shots, Benn Thompson chasing
the clubs goal scoring record of
169 that has stood for the past
thirty years and Danny Brunskill
showing what pace he's really
got. Brilliant.
Jarrow Roofing were no push over, a young team that looked
impressive coming forward but
couldn't cope with Thommo and
Bruno who out muscled Jarrow's
defence, Charlton and Dekka on
the wings caused havoc while
Gell and Marron in midfield
totally dominated.
Another clean sheet and as last
week Graham Willey in goal was
outstanding so a great choice
when he was awarded sponsors
MOTM.
Anthony Roberts and young Jon
Burton came in for injured Andy
Raw and Adam Wheatley who had
work commitments, Mark Taylor
and Leon Carling made up the
rest of the back four.
Half time Marske went in
three-nil up with goals from
Tommo, Charlton and Brunskill.
Second half we started slowly
and looked a bit complacent at
times but with our defence on
form we managed to retain a
clean sheet.
Donachie and Gill came on before
Tommo scored his second getting
closer to that all time record.
All in all a good day at the
office so well done to all
concerned.
Half way point in the season
now, twenty one games gone and
twenty six points on the table.
NRSC draw took place and Marske
got a home tie against
Middlesbrough. This game will be
played sometime in January, if
anyone wishes to sponsor this
game, company or individual
please get in touch with myself
or any member of the committee.
Steve Cochrane has left the club
and gone to Northallerton Town,
I would like to wish Steve all
the best with his new club and a
warm welcome will always await
you at the G.E.R stadium.
Under 18's
The under 18's didn't have a

anyone who wishes to go and
support the lads.
Limited seats are available so

This Saturday we welcome Newcastle Benfield to the G.E.R stadium
which is going to be another
tough game.
Our feet need to be firmly on the ground as we have a run of some
tough games coming up, if we
keep our heads and play as we
have than I'm sure there's going
to be a few upsets in the coming
month.
Our next away trip.

On Saturday we travelled to
Consett which does seem to be a
lot further than the sat nav
states.
After dropping the kit manager
off at the ground the supporters
bus made its way to the Grey
Horse pub which brings back many
happy memories for those who
witnessed our win against
Consett in the FA Vase a couple
of seasons ago. Still a very
friendly reception greets you at
the Grey Horse pub and I am told
that the real ales are pretty
good as well. If you're passing
through Consett or in the area
its well worth a visit.
Back to the football and I have
to admit I didn't know what to
expect from Consett.
As for ourselves we are growing
with confidence and playing with
a lot of belief, after
yesterdays performance this
Marske team have shown what
quality there is in the squad It
does look like Burto, Rilo and
Cappy have got them to gel at
last.
Four-nil the full time score,
these lads train twice a week
and their efforts are starting
to pay off.
Karl Charlton scored his hat
trick and truly deserved it.
Willey our keeper deserves a
mention as he pulled off some
brilliant saves early in the
game and totally dominates his
goal mouth. He makes it look and
sound so easy, is a quality
signing and just adds to a solid
defence that deserved a clean
sheet for there efforts.
On the Consett forum somebody
has put a remark "embarrassing".
Believe me, nobody was beating
us yesterday so I do think they
are been a bit hard on their
Consett team.
As some may have read it is my
Birthday today, 50 is a bit
harsh on me but gaining another
3 points made my day so I'll
leave you guessing at that one.
Next Saturday we welcome Jarrow
Roofing to the G.E.R stadium and
although they have suffered a
couple of defeats recently they
will be a physical team so we
cant be complaisant if we are
going to get something out of
this game.
At present we are sitting high
in the league form table so a
win against Jarrow Roofing will
help boost our position. http://www.northernleague.org/view_div1_tables.php
Under 18's
The under 18's didn't have a
game this weekend due to teams
dropping out of their league.
Under 12's
Our under 12's didn't have a
game either so no report.
As mentioned earlier Saturday
3rd December we welcome Jarrow
Roofing to the G.E.R stadium, a
week later we are at home to
Newcastle Benfield also.
Our next away trip.
Saturday 17th December we make
the trip to Dunston UTS. Dunston
are flying high at present
sitting second in both the
league and form table.
Be the twelfth man and help
cheer the team on.
We are giving supporters two
weeks notice to sort their
Christmas shopping out and book
yourself on our next away trip.
As a club we are offering

Chairman's Weekly Review: 20th November 2011
Seniors
On Saturday we welcomed Shildon
FC and a good friend in Norman
to the G.E.R stadium for what
was always going to be a tough
test. Over recent years Shildon
have had their fair share of
success so Marske would have to
be at their best to have any
chance of getting points out of
this encounter.
With Tommy Marron making his
debut from Whitby Town this
added an extra buzz to the team
that fought for the deserved
victory a week previously. This
match had everything, a foul on
Gell for Shildon's goal was
controversial, really pleased
how we reacted as a team,
although we protested to the
referee the team did it in the
right manner. As a result we
kept focused and as Burto drums
into the players, "we go again".
It was only time when we
levelled as you could see we
wanted these three points more
and Charlo smashed a cracking
shot in the back of the net
after being put through by
Bruno. One-one.
Price, a Shildon player should
have been sent off for his
outburst of Foul and Abusive
language towards the referee and
right in view of, the referee,
linesman and as always
spectators which included women
and children. This continued for
what seemed like minutes before
the referee got a grip of him
and branded a yellow card?
This is frustrating, I get asked
by the League Chairman what we
are doing to try and cut Foul
and Abusive language out of the
game as the league are taking a
hard line on this issue. We can
only do so much as a club, it is
up to the referee's to enforce
the letter of the law at the end
of the day but we will continue
in our efforts.
Half time score one-one.
Second half we came out as we
left off and kept pushing for a
winner, Benn Thomson does look
like he's back at his best and
is a defenders nightmare in this
form as he wins every ball in
the air and a proper handful.
With Bruno, Charlton and Dekka
all running at the Shildon's
defence it was no surprise when
some good team play resulted in
Benn heading a pin point cross
into the back of the net.
Two-one Marske.
With chances at both ends
Marske's defence stood strong
and absorbed the pressure.
Final result Marske won two-one
and deserved the full three
points. Well done lads on
another class team performance
and much needed points.
Glenn Brunskill sponsored
today's match and picked debut
Tommy Marron as his MOM. Well
done Tommy and thank you Glenn.
Under 18's
The under 18's didn't have a
game this weekend due to teams
dropping out of their league.
Under 12's
Our under 12's welcomed Thirsk
to the G.E.R stadium who were
higher in the league table
before this game. With
confidence flowing, the sprit
and skill of these young lads as
a team saw another good
performance and as a result they
won six-one.
This now puts our under 12's
above Thirsk in the league
table. Well done lads,
brilliant.
Saturday 26th November we
travel to Consett, my last
memory at Consett was the
deafening support our supporters
made a couple of seasons ago in
one of the many FA Vase rounds.
Brilliant day out with a victory
so lets hope we can repeat it.
Anyone wishing to travel I will
provide transport if required.
Cost is £10 return and we will
be leaving the club at 12.30pm.

shown and as a result ensured an
instant success with the club
raising much needed funds. A
special mention to Gary Roper
from J E Smith butchers in
Saltburn, Gary helped organise
the event, Janet, Zoe and Cheryl
as well as the committee and
supporters who helped out on the
night and pushed the event for
us.

Chairman's Weekly Review: 13th November 2011
Seniors
On Tuesday the seniors hosted
Gillford Park in the league cup.
Unfortunately it's an early exit
for us as we were beaten two-one
in a game that we didn't really
get going in. There's no
question over effort but it was
one of those games that we just
seemed not to get going.
Fair play to Gillford Park who
deserved their win and
progressed into the next round.
Lets hope you go and win it now.
Good luck in the next round.
Saturday was a different story
and where do you start.
For all those supporters who
travelled we were in for a seven
goal thriller!
Two nil down after twenty
minutes and I have to admit even
though we had chances ourselves,
it did look like one of those
days.
What was different about the
team as we headed for the centre
spot our heads hadn't dropped.
Brunskill taking his captains
role in his stride demanded
tighter defending and you could
see the team lift with urgency.
Just when you needed a reaction
we got one and you have to give
every single player a massive
pat on the back for the sheer
grit, determination and
character shown.
Coming back to equalise two-two,
then going ahead three-two, only
to concede minutes later is
heart breaking. Scoring a winner
a minute later just doesn't
happen to us. Well it did
yesterday and you try and knock
that smile off my face.
A game that tested every emotion
possible, but hey it's the three
points we needed and got.
If I go grey along the way than
so be it. Keep it up fellows
I'll get my Just for Men hair
dye out.
Seriously well done to Paul,
Mark, Cappy, the players and
also the supporters who when two
nil down kept cheering the team
on, it does make a difference
and i know the players
appreciate it.
Under 18's
The under 18's played away at
Marton in the North Riding cup. Marton,
a division higher than Marske in
the league, edged too a two-nil
win.
Marske gave a good account of
themselves and can be proud of
their performance. Keep it up
lads!
Under 12's
Our under 12's proved too strong
for Scholes Park in the North
Riding cup at the G.E.R stadium.
A brilliant team performance saw
them win nineteen-nil. Just in
case you think its a typing
error, yes nineteen.
That's one of our teams through
to the next round so as soon as
the draw is made I'll let you
know and lets see if we can give
these lads some support along
the way. Well done lads, Neil
and the coaches, here's hoping
you get a home draw at the G.E.R
stadium.
Saturday 19th November we host
our friends from Shildon at the
G.E.R stadium. Shildon like
ourselves our the past few
seasons have also had their fair
share of success in the FA Vase
and between the two clubs have
wished each other well.
Sorry Norman "Shildon", I'll buy
you a pint on Saturday when you
arrive but I'm hoping for a
Marske victory.
Show your support, Get behind
the team and Enjoy the game. Sea
Sea Seasiders!
Sportsman Evening with Dean
Windass and Greg Cook.
Pleased to announce this event
is sold out. Can I take
this opportunity to thank
everybody who has bought
tickets, we have sold 200 in all
so get there early and I'm sure
we are in for a cracking night.
Christmas raffle tickets are now
on sale with a £200 cash first
prize. See Janet or any of the
committee for tickets.
Priced at £1 a book or twenty
pence a ticket it must be worth
go?
Remember "You have to be in it,
to win it!"
Many thanks to you all for your
continued support,
Peter.

Seniors
On Tuesday the seniors saw off
Richmond Town in the North
Riding Senior Cup, winning
one-nil. Although not a
convincing display by Marske you
have to give Richmond their due
as they played some good passing
football in a game they class as
a cup final day out and have
nothing to lose but everything
to gain. Well done to Basher for
scoring the winner.
A great bunch of lads and
officials from Richmond Town,
good luck for the rest of your
season.
On Saturday we hosted Ashington
at the G.E.R stadium. A game of
two halves as Marske were
dominant in the first half and
went in at half time one-nil up
through a Brunskill penalty.
The second half was a different
story as Ashington came back in
the game. I do feel a draw would
have been a fair result as the
lads worked their socks off and
created chances but the score
line is all that matters and we
came away pointless. Many thanks
to Phil Jones for sponsoring the
game for his Birthday and
picking Danny Brunskill as his
MOM.
Last week I expressed my
disappointment in our sending
off at Stokesley, the player in
question wishes to apologise to
anybody for whom he upset and
regrets his actions.
This week against Ashington the
boot was on the other foot as a
Marske supporter verbally abused
one of our own players whilst on
the pitch. Under no
circumstances will the club
tolerate, offensive, insulting,
or abusive language or
behaviour.
The incident happened in the
second half and the spectator in
question was stood near the
entrance steps to the ground
when it occurred.
If anyone witnessed this, or the
person in question wishes to
come forward and apologise to
the player please get in touch
with myself or a member of the
committee.
Remember the quote from last
week, if you have read the
latest issue of the Northern
Ventures you will find the
League have been told to enforce
this at the end of November at
our level. No excuses!
I quote: "
The FA are clamping down on
unruly behaviour and it must be
stated that foul and abusive
language isn't going to be
tolerated, whether from the
dugout, players, committee or
fans. Please take note!"
The team have made their
commitment now I ask supporters
to do the same.
Do turn up, show your passion,
but most of all, ENJOY the game.
Under 18's
The under 18's played away at
league leaders Stokesley,
unfortunately Stokesley proved
too much as we were beaten
five-nil.
Next week the under 18's travel
to Marton in the North Riding
cup and will be hoping to put
the last couple of results
behind them. Good luck lads.
Under 12's
A good crowd was entertained to
the under 12's cup game against
Fishburn. Marske came out worthy
winners with a ten-one victory.
It wasn't all one way as
Fishburn took the lead one-nil
with a well placed penalty in
the first half. Slow to get
going Marske soon found their
stride and the half ended
two-one to Marske. At this I had
to go shopping with the wife,
when the score came through how
I'd wished I had stayed for the
second half.
These lads are a great passing
team and well worth a visit to
watch them.
Once again the under 12's are at
home next Sunday with an eleven
thirty kick-off. They play host
to Scholes Park from Scarborough
in the North Riding cup.
Tuesday 8th November we welcome
Gilford Park in the League cup,
note kick off is 7.45pm for this
one with the travelling involved
for Gilford.
Saturday 12th November we make
the trip to South Shields.
Anyone requiring transport we
have a mini bus going from the
club at a cost of £10 return.
Please get in touch to reserve
your seat.
Sportsman Evening with Dean
Windass and Greg Cook.
Pleased to announce this event
is nearly sold out. If
you haven't got your ticket yet
please get in touch a.s.a.p. to
avoid disappointment.
This event has been organised
with supporters in mind hence
the £12.50 ticket price and
venue here in Marske. Please
show your support if at all
possible.
Many thanks to you all for your
continued support,
Peter.

Seniors
One of the many local derby
games saw the seniors away at
rock bottom Stokesley. The score
line ended three-one to
Marske but we ended the game
with ten men!
What is disappointing for me is
the sending off. Can I remind
everybody what Les Holtby, the
club secretary, put it in his
end of season report last year,
I quote: " The FA are
clamping down on unruly
behaviour and it must be stated
that foul and abusive language
isn't going to be
tolerated, whether from the
dugout, players, committee or
fans. Please take note!"
On a positive note well done to
the team for going on and taking
the three points which takes us
up the table and gives a little
breathing space from the bottom
three.
Under 18's
The under 18's played away at
Thornaby and got beat four-two.
Marske had their chances but a
couple of mistakes and a missed
penalty cost them in the end.
Under 12's
What a difference a week can
make as the under 12's bounced
back with a fantastic eight-one
win over the 21st All Stars.
Next Sunday the under 12's have
a cup game at the G.E.R stadium
with a 11.30 kick off. Show your
support and lets encourage these
lads on, I know they'll
appreciate it.
A busy week ahead as we welcome
Richmond Town on Tuesday 01st
November in the North Riding
Senior Cup with a 7.30 kick off.
Saturday 5th November we host
Ashington at the G.E.R stadium
in another tough test against
one of the leagues top half
sides.
Tuesday 8th November we welcome
Gilford Park in the League cup,
note kick off is 7.45 for this
one with the travelling involved
for Gilford.
With 3 home games on the bounce
now is your chance to buy your
Sportsman Evening tickets. This
event has been organised with
supporters in mind hence the
£12.50 ticket price and venue
here in Marske. Please show your
support if at all possible.
Many thanks to you all for your
continued support,
Peter.

Seniors
Bishop Auckland were our
visitors at the G.E.R Stadium
for this encounter. A much
improved Marske performance from
the previous week saw us only
able to clinch a point from the
game. Marske were dominant for
the first half but couldn't do
enough to score, moments before
half time we were dealt the
killer blow when Auckland had
their first shot on goal and
scored. Half time one-nil Bishop
Auckland.
Second half was much more even
with end to end football,
firstly Charlton scoring a
cracking goal than Benn Thompson
coming on and heading one in on
90 minutes. You would think we
had done enough to secure the
three points but with three
minutes injury time added on
Bishop Auckland scored their
second. Full time two-two.
A quick mention to congratulate
the Bishop Auckland fans who
travelled down last Saturday, in
fine voice in and out of the
club house and made for an
enjoyable afternoon. Well done
fellows and look forward to
visiting your new ground in
March.
Under 18's
The under 18's played host to
Stokesley at the G.E.R Stadium,
Stokesley are currently flying
joint top of our league.
Nothing could separate the two
teams with it ending nil-nil
with chances at both ends where
Marske hit the cross bar in the
first half then Sam Harvey the
Marske keeper having to make a
couple of cracking saves in the
second half. All in all a good
team performance.
Well done lads.
Under 12's
Wasn't our day for the under
12's as they travelled to
Norton. Missed chances cost us
dearly and we were defeated
four-one.
This Saturday 29th October the
seniors travel to Stokesley
themselves, with Stokesley at
the bottom of the table its a
must win game now.
Show your support, be the
twelfth man and cheer the lads
on.
Many thanks to Martin Jobling
who has done an excellent
article for the club on the
university website highlighting
the day to day struggle clubs
and ourselves go through in
order to keep afloat. It can be
seen at; http://www.tside.co.uk/2011/10/21/ex-boro-star-to-help-non-league-club/
Many thanks to you all for your
continued support,
Peter.

Seniors
After the excellent performances
against RCA and Newton Aycliffe,
Saturday's defeat has brought us
back down to earth I reckon.
Saying that, Billingham Town
officials did give their goal
keeper Briggs man of the match
after the game who was in my
opinion outstanding throughout.
For Marske they gave McGill man
of the match, Chris once again
worked his socks off.
Unfortunately at this level you
have to put your chances away or
you get punished, this game is
proof of that. The three one
score line did flatter Town in
the end but regardless off the
score we need to learn from it.
It goes without saying we need
to beat these teams around us if
we have any chance of staying
up. We always knew this year was
going to be a roller coaster of
a season, Saturday was the big
dip in the ride for me, lets
hope we start the climb up this
Saturday with the game against
Bishop Auckland.
On a different note Dom Gamble
has been released by the club.
Dom has been a popular figure
within the club and captained
the team to promotion last
season. We wish Dom the very
best and thank him for his
contribution over the past few
seasons. Good luck Dom, a warm
welcome always awaits you at the
G.E.R Stadium.
Under 18's
The under 18's played host to
Eaglescliffe at the G.E.R
Stadium, unfortunately they too
were defeated by three goals to
nil.
On a positive note Danny
Duffield was outstanding in
midfield for Marske and can take
a lot away from the game with
his performance.
Under 12's
I managed to get down for the
first half of this game and
witnessed another good
performance by our under 12's.
Not only did they beat a very
robust Whinney Banks team by
five goals at the G.E.R Stadium,
they also kept another clean
sheet.
Well done lads.
Look forward to seeing you this
Saturday 22nd October for our
next home game against Bishop
Auckland, be the twelth man and
cheer the lads on.
We do have the "Delmonts," a
50's - 60's band on in the club
house afterwards for Cheryl's
21st Birthday, did I say 21st!
Players and supporters are more
than welcome and even better if
you turn up in fancy dress, let
your hair down and lets see you
'rock around the clock'. Starts
around 8ish.
Many thanks to you all for your
continued support,
Peter.
Chairman's Weekly Review: 9th
October 2011
Welcome to what is going to be a
weekly review to let supporters
know how all our teams got on
and any news from the club or
league.
Seniors.
What a difference a week can
make and how true those words
are. Tuesday night we travelled
up the A19 to Sunderland RCA,
the league leaders and who have
been scoring for fun so we knew
this was going to be another big
test. A couple of the squad that
beat Aycliffe in the previous
game were missing through either
injury or work commitments so
this gave others a chance to get
back in the starting eleven. A
game that was played at an
incredible pace saw us two nil
up at one point but we couldn't
hold that lead and the game
finished two-two. Credit to all
the players that night for a
brilliant performance.
Saturday saw a strong support
base make the short trip to
Billingham Synthonia who again
have hit a bit of form of late,
beating Whitley Bay previously.
Due to other commitments I
couldn't attend this one but we
must be happy taking another
point away from home. A bullet
header from Omerod saw us go
behind one-nil. Synthonia than
made it two-nil and credit to
the lads for keeping their heads
up as McGill pulled one back to
make it two-one at half time.
Second half we played much
better and Brunskill got himself
on the score sheet to end the
game two-two.
Under 18's
The Under 18's travelled to
Darlington RA's B team this
afternoon in what ended up a
five-two victory to Marske. The
lads put in a good performance
in difficult conditions and
deserved their win. Well done to
you all.
Under 12's
The Under 12's travelled to
league leaders Newton Aycliffe
and came out eleven-nil winners.
On top throughout, Marske
dominated the game with an all
round brilliant team
performance. That's some score
line lads, well done to you all.
On a final note it is great that
we now have sponsors for every
player in the senior squad, we
still have a couple of match day
sponsors available so if you are
looking at sponsoring a game,
please get in touch with a
member of the committee.
Many thanks to you all for your
continued support.
Peter.
